    Here is some info that might be helpful. The system model number is "TRANE XV 1500 Variable Speed Weathertron Heat Pump". The currently installed thermostat is also by Trane and the model is "TAYSTAT 261".

    Yes, you have a 2 stage system. I'm not sure where the black wire (BK connection) is terminated on the current stat. I would recommend a better thermostat than the 3m-50.

    Yeah, I'll have to check that BK connection. What other thermostat would you recommend?

    I want to be able to control the thermostat remotely and I am already using the 3M-50 on the upstairs unit (Also Trane, but not a VS system).

    For full operation of your system I would recommend the prestige iaq with an internet gateway. You could also use the ecobee smart thermostat but I don't like their touchscreen. There are a few other options as well.

    As cool as the prestige iaq is, is it really worth $100 more than the ecobee?
    Does Honeywell charge a monthly fee for thier internet gateway?
