MOST manufacturers of HVAC equipment will NOT provide support to homeowners and they shouldn't. I understand you are just installing a thermostat, but it is not a homeowner thermostat. It is a professional thermostat. Where did you purchase this thermostat. The retailer is the one that should provide you support for a professional product if they are willing to sell it to a homeowner.

First, hvactechfw, please spare me the caps. Second, this "professional" thermostat requires all of three wires to install in a heat-only system (or just two wires if you don't mind batteries). Third, take a look around the internet at other manufacturers. Honeywell provides videos on how customers can install their thermostats, including tips on what to do if you don't have a C wire available. As far as I am concerned, in today's world a manufacturer should provide customer support. If Carrier won't, I'll buy Honeywell.

Honeywell does not offer support to homeowners on their professional line of thermostats either. The manufacturer has no way to know every single hvac system out there. Yours is one of those that is somewhat uncommon. It is highly doubtful that most thermostat manufacturers would even know to try the ground as a common if you did call them for support because they don't make the equipment that you are installing their product to. I am simply trying to let you know that it is not a Carrier problem. It is an industry wide accepted practice to not offer homeowner support on professional equipment. That is what this forum is for.

Now, to your problem..... You should look for a transformer somewhere on your heating equipment. It may be inside the gray honeywell primary control box.

I'm thinking your answer is under the cover of that control box. Be careful if you choose to remove it to see what is inside.
