Honeywell RTH9580 thermostat - heating on cooling cycle

Okay, I give up and need some help with the RTH9580 Honeywell wifi thermostat.

Installed new thermostat, everything went well, even the wifi. However, when the system goes to 'cool' - it blows hot air.
-C,R,O,Y,G,W2 wires straight off of old unit and onto new with no issues
-Confirmed (photo) no errors in labeling wires (previous unit worked)
-Checked fuses, triple checked wires properly connected
-Fan works and seems to be controlled by unit
-Set for forced air, electrical, 1 cooling zone - tried 1 and 2 zones for heating because the W2 wire
-Put system in 'heat' mode....but in Florida and only goes to 90 degrees when room is 92 ....
-Honeywell FAQ and troubleshooting pretty thin

Update Amazon now offers free in home Smart Home Consultation

I'm at a loss unless it is just a bad unit
    Thanks,
    Eric

Have you tried to change the setup for the reversing valve? If not go to menu > System Setup and switch the setting for "Type of changeover valve"

I'm having the exact same problem with the exact same wirings. There's no setup option for a changeover valve.

I tried the heating setting since it's only 88 here and I was still getting warm air.

these are my before and after pictures.

When you set up the Honeywell RTH9580 did you configure it as a heat pump system?
When you go to menu > System Setup do you not see a setting for "Type of changeover valve"?

Looking at your attached picture It looks like the push pin for the W O/B terminal may be damaged.
