6580 wifi - auto fan setting does not work on heat mode

I installed the thermostat last August when the original Trane programmable thermostat would lose setting and turn off if the power on home went off, apparently the battery backup was dead.

We bought the Honeywell 6580RTH wifi and installed. I took a picture of the wiring as installed by dealer on the bad thermostat.

original was dark blue to C, Red to R, White to W1, Green to G, Yellow to Y
i labeled wires with tags according to that
the new one was wired according to diagram in quick use manual
    G to G, W to W, C to C, Y to Y, and R to R and this last terminal has a jumper to RC
system seemed to work fine, all this time, wifi worked, program worked, remote app worked
I thought we tested the heat function, but maybe not since it was August.

Now when I set system to heat and change requested temperature high enough the "HEAT ON" symbol shows, but the fan does not come on.
If I set the the fan to ON instead of AUTO then the system does blow and I can feel the warm air at vents.
Is the thermostat bad or am I missing something else on wiring?

attached is a picture of old thermostat wiring on vertical terminal board, and a picture from manual of how the new wiring is.

    thanks for any input

i found the problem in the system setup. The heating fan control in function 3 defaults to oil or gas furnace and ours is electric heat. That solved it!
