My new HVAC needs 6 wires, I only have 5 wires for the Nest

    Hi All,

I have a brand new AC and furnace installed (variable speed/stages). It turns out I only have 5 wires between my attic where the HVAC control is and my downstairs Nest thermostat. Putting a new wire is almost impossible. Which are the pros/cons for the following options?

    1. Can I use an external 24V DC adapter to power the Nest directly and by freeing up the need for the Common wire I gain an extra wire.
    2. Use a Venstar ACC0410 Add-A-Wire Kit (4 wires to 5), however what is the trick to use it as a 5 wires to 6 setup?
    3. Should I give up the in-door fan control wire and use the extra wire for the variable control?
    4. Do not use Common wire for power, use it as some control and use the heat/cool signal to charge the Nest?

    Thanks!
