Can anyone tell me what the green wire is and where it would go on a new thermostat. This is an old white Rodgers heat only 2 wire thermostat. Itís on an old hot water boiler. Thanks

We ended up putting a nest e on the system. The old thermo was a 1f35-910 and when I called best they told me to abandon the wire going to y6. Does this sound right.

The green wire is typically used to control a fan in HVAC applications. You need to check the the other end of the wire to see if the green wire is connected to anything.

Some of those old thermostats used the 6 as a inverse heat to close a zone valve in a hot water system. Modern valves are spring loaded so they close when power is removed and don't need a 6. Older valves needed the 6 to "power close" them after the thermostat said heating was satisfied.

So you really do need to check to see where the wires go.
