Trouble with Goodman HTP18-60 to honeywell RTH9580 wifi

I am trying to upgrade my thermostat from a Goodman HTP18-60 to a honeywell RTH9580 wifi, I tried to follow the wiring instructions but it only ended up blowing hot air or it would say waiting for equipment so I put the old one back on. This is the wiring on my current thermostat

When your system was blowing hot air was the outdoor unit running? If the outdoor unit was running when your unit was blowing hot air did you try to change the setting for the "type of change over valve" in the menu > system settings?
